AA, Boudewijnsz. van der: Bookseller, publisher and printer in Leyden 1697-1747. In 1668 he was a pupil of Daniël van GAESBEECK. Married Elisabeth Pechlin in 1685. Remarried Anna Margaretha Croessen in 1695. In 1708 he bought house and firm, Rapenburg 32, of D. v. Gaesbeeck, his former employer. In 1712 Van der Aa took over the printshop and publishing-firm of Abraham Elsevier II at Rapenburg 71 and moved his firm to that address. He sold Rapenburg no. 32 for f. 2700,=. According to Waller is address was also: "Breestraat" (1737-1741)
The address mentioned in Waller: "Hoeck van de Kloksteeg over de Academie", "Op 't Rapenburg over de Academie" (1698-1700) is not correct.[i]

AA, Janssoons van der: Leyden about 1706-1727.

AA, Pieter van der: Worked in Leyden 1682-1733. "St. Pieters  Koorsteeg, in Plato". “Drucker der Universiteyt en van de Stad.” His brother Hillebrand, who was an etcher, worked for him. In 1730 Van der Aa sold his copperplates to COVENS & MORTIER.

ADOLFFSZOON, Harmen: Haarlem about 1603-1622.

d'AELMOSSENIERS VAN LEYDEN: Leyden about 1645.

AELST, Nikolaus van: Born about 1526 in Brussels. Worked in Rome about 1550 under the name Nicolo van Aelst. Still alive in 1613. After his death the publishing-firm went partly to THOMASSIN, Joh. de RUBEIS and V. CENCI in Rome and partly to Stef. SCOLARI in Venice.

AERTSEN, Hendrick: Antwerp 1622-1639. Bookpublisher.

AERSTEN, Pieter, also named "Lange Pier": Amsterdam 1508-1575. Address on his own work, always first states.

ALLARD, Abraham: Born in Amsterdam ca. 1676, died about 1725. Son of Carel ALLARD. He also was a poet. "op den Dam bij de Beurs­steeg" (1704-'14); "op de Nieuwe Turfmarkt" (1722-'25).

ALLARD, Carel: Amsterdam 1648-1707. Father of Abraham ALLARD, son of art-dealer Hugo ALLARD from Tournai. "Op den Dam in de Caardtwinckel bij de Beursstraete" (1673-1709). (Pr.)

ALLARD, Hugo or Huych: Born in Tournai (Belgium) ca. 1620. Came to Amsterdam (1645) where he married in 1647 and died in 1684. His address was: "Voor aan in de Kalverstraat (by den Dam) in de WereltKaart".

ALLERTSZOON, Herman (and Michiel): Also called himself ALLARD, ALLARDI. Worked in Amsterdam 1597-1618. He was also employed as  sexton of the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam. (1603-1652). His address was: "by Corsgens poort (1598); "Op den middel Dam in Ruytenburch" (1599); "Aen de Nieuwe Kerck, in de Konst druckerye" (1606).

"AUX QUATRE VENTS": Antwerp 1570-1600. "In de Vier Winden, in De Gulden Passer". After the death of H. COCK in 1570, his widow, Volcxken Diercx, used the address "Aux quatre vents". The name of Cock was no longer mentioned on the prints. After 1600 she sold nearly the whole stock to Th. GALLE and H. GOLTZIUS.

AVONT, Pieter or Pierre van: Born in Mechelen 1599. Was in 1620 as painter in the Guild of Mechelen. He became the civil rights of Antwerp in 1631 and started a publishing firm. He married twice. He was a friend of Wenzel Hollar, whose engravings he published. He died on November 1st, 1652 in precarious financial circumstances.
