Gulden Passer". After the death of H. COCK in 1570, his widow, Volcxken
Diercx, used the address "Aux quatre vents". The name of Cock was no
longer mentioned on the prints. After 1600 she sold nearly the whole stock to
Th. GALLE and H. GOLTZIUS.
AVONT,
Pieter or Pierre van: Born in
Mechelen 1599. Was in 1620 as painter in the Guild of Mechelen. He became the
civil rights of Antwerp in 1631 and started a publishing firm. He married
twice. He was a friend of Wenzel Hollar, whose engravings he published. He died
on November 1st, 1652 in precarious financial circumstances.
