"Broer Jansz. originally worked as an engraver and printer, and early 1586- one year after The Hague was defenitely re-instated as governmental seat- he is mentioned as such in the city. Autograpf prints have yet to be traced, and Jansz. seems to have primarily profiled himself as an 'art-dealer'. He had been keeping a stand at the Binnenhof for some time, where his wife dealt in 'various arts' (verscheydenen konsten), when he submitted an official request for a license in 1608. Until 1614, he was allowed to manage a stand alongside other print and art dealers, including Balthasar van Berckenrode and Pieter de Pruyster in the so-called "White Gallery", in front of the court chapel at the Binnenhof. On 18 October of the same year, 1614, Jansz. registered at the guild as a book and art dealer and dismantled his stand at the Binnenhof in order to begin a new shop elsewhere in the city. It was probably a second outlet, for in 1628/29 he still referred to as a bookseller at the Binnenhof.
Broer Jansz. will have carried on business in the area of the graphic arts, both books and prints, and in addition seems to have developed printing and publishing activities. Various prints and print series bearing his address are known.

Cock founded his publishing-firm about 1550, after the example of Antonio Salamanca who introduced terms as "formis" and "excudebat" behind the name of the owner/publisher of a copper plate. He noticed it on his journey to Italy/Rome, in 1540. Between 1550 and 1558 he published 60 etchings of Roman ruins after his own drawings. Cock had a permanent workagreement with Brueghel until 1563. Then Brueghel left Antwerp and went to Brussels. From 1557-1565 architectpainter Hans Vredeman de Vries, worked for Cock.   Philips Galle and Dirk Volckertsz. Coornhert (Haarlem) worked occasionally for him. Pieter van der Heyden, also called Petrus à Mercia, (according to Hollstein his initial was PAVE, according to Museum Boymans van Beuningen PAME) was one of Cock's most important engravers. He engraved after Brueghel.
In 1601 Cock's widow died and many plates of the stock were sold to Ph. Galle and H. Goltzius. Later Claes Jansz. Visscher bought copperplates from Cock's studio. Cock also had connections with Plantijn who worked as Cock's agent in Paris and Frankfurt. In return, Cock sold Plantijn's books in Antwerp.   Cock never bought existing copperplates.
